Cheesecloth takes it name from the
function it was originally used for – namely wrapping cheese. It's
a lightweight cotton which is loosely woven and isn't really
substantial or strong enough to make soft furnishings; although it
can be used successfully for making mosquito nets and bed canopies,
along with lightweight curtains.
For those who remember back to the 60s
and 70s cheesecloth was made into shirts and was highly fashionable!
