Make a Statement with Cobalt Blue & Glacier Grey

The deep intensity of cobalt blue makes a real statement. Use it as the main colour for furniture and wall art paired with glacier grey; the end result is a stunning colour palette which oozes style.

Use accents of custard yellow to create an eclectic style which would suit modern and contemporary homes.

Use cobalt blue as a feature wall colour; it will sit beautifully next to glacier grey or blush – a hint of custard on the floor will help to ground the colour scheme, making it seem warmer.

We all know that free standing roll-top bath are bang on-trend; give it a cobalt blue outer and you'll be hitting all the right interior design notes.

Beautiful Blues

Blue is the world's favourite colour according to market research and it's easy to see why; there's so many shades and tones this cool, calming colour looks great in all styles of homes. Blue can even be sexy when you opt for deep indigo for bedrooms, while the pretty pastel shades bode well with Country Cottage and Shabby Chic interiors.

Blue is often regarded as a masculine colour and this may be true to some extent when you consider the navy and mid range tones, however, today's designers are bringing blue into the mix in a wide range of ways, giving everyone the ability to use blue in their home.

Plush Purple

Oozing style and sophistication purple was once a colour that was only permitted to be used by royalty and nobles. Luckily today we can all enjoy this opulent colour. From the prettiest pale lavenders to deep, rich aubergines there's a purple tone to suit everyone.

Trendy Tuesdays - Pantone Colour Trend 2013

This year Pantone have made emerald their on-trend colour. This beautiful jewel naturally occurs in many different colour hues, but the one we're probably most familiar with is the gorgeous mid to dark green. As green is renowned for its energising affects this stunning colour is going to been seen both in fashion and within interior designs throughout this year.

With such an intense colour homes will be look luxurious, and when teamed with black or aubergine accents living rooms and bedrooms can easily become dynamic to look at. Be inspired by the jewel itself, focusing on clarity and saturation of colour. Only the mid to dark tones can truly be called emeralds within the jewellery trade, any paler colours are classified as green beryls.

Emerald is the birthstone of May and also associated with the zodiac signs, Cancer, Taurus and Gemini. Although you don't have to have any of these reasons to include this striking colour in your home.

Trendy Tuesdays - Homes Filled with Colour

As much as I love white I also love bright colours, and what better way to bring pops of colour into your home then via your accessories. Whether the accessories you choose are a necessity or you simply like them they're a great way to bring a fresh new look to your home without have to redecorate.

You can also swap your homes interior design style by introducing a few accessories; for example if you love retro but aren't quite brave enough to go all out and transport your rooms back through the decades, why not start small and if you're comfortable you can move on to including larger pieces, such as furniture and furnishings.

If you're still full of enthusiasm for the new look, you can take a giant leap and change the whole appearance and dynamics of your home. There's no need to get stuck in a rut when it comes to interior designs, there's plenty of ideas online or in magazines to suit all styles and budgets.

Friday Fabrics – Choosing the Right Type

Fabrics play an integral part of interior design – just think how many times they're used in a room and you'll soon discover that no home is complete without them. From curtains and blinds to bedding and soft furnishings fabrics are what turns a house into a home. The patterns designs and colour you choose to use will say a lot about the type of person you are (even if you're not aware of it).

When choosing colours we obviously choose colours which we are comfortable living with, the same applies to pattern or lack of it. However, the type of fabric you choose will dependant on what you are going to use it for. For example, if you're going to re-upholster a chair you'll need a fabric which is substantial enough to be pulled and stretched tight, on the other hand if you want to make a stunning window dressing you may prefer to use a more lightweight fabric which is fluid and allows you to drape it over curtain poles.

Each type of fabric also has its own distinctive texture, from rough hard wearing denim to silky smooth satins and gorgeous plush velvet. You may also need to consider the fabric's ability to be maintained – many are machine washable which is a must for bedding etc. while others will need to be professionally dry cleaned to prevent shrinkage and distortion.

Whenever you need to choose a fabric, either to make your own soft furnishings or if you're buying ready made items it's worth checking to see if they are fit for your intended purpose – there's plenty of beautiful fabrics available so you'll have no trouble finding exactly what you need in a colour and pattern to you and the style of your home.
