The fabric is also known or referred to
as crape, and is available as silk, polyester or wool. Crepe is made
using a complex weaving method which is then boiled to give it its
characteristic crinkle. It's a lightweight fabric, but it's not
transparent. Used mainly for making clothes, shawls and scarves it
can also be used to make lightweight curtains and draperies. It's
nubby texture gives the fabric a matt finish which can look stunning
at windows or when used for other lightweight craft projects around
the home. It's the ideal fabric if you want to add a visual and
tactile dimension to a room. The price varies considerably as
polyester is far cheaper than silk or wool.
