Thursday Thoughts - What Paints Should You Use in Your Home?

We all have paint in our homes, either on walls, ceilings and perhaps gloss paint for doors and skirting boards. But have you ever consider what's in them?

If you are intending to paint your room and try to if you can to avoid using latex-based paints and instead try and go for water-based paints. The reason for this is that latex based paints are normally full of oil based chemicals, and these chemicals never really fully dissipate. This means that the paint that is on your wall will tend to give off noxious gases and these gases can be very detrimental to the atmosphere. So to aid yourself towards a greener lifestyle, it is wise to stay away from paints that contain chemicals.

If you consider for a moment the paints that are available on the market today, you will find that most of them are manufactured with low volatile compounds which are often known as VOC's. But today it is actually possible to find several brands of paint that are VOC free, not only that they are crystalline-silica free and also non-flammable. These eco-friendly paints are usually made of soy and chalk, but there are other types of paints on the market that also have very little or are completely free of chemicals.
